Houlette Freso - Saint Erme

Felicity, Liam et Cecilia

Residency at the Performing Arts Forum.
Village of Saint Erme, a short train ride from Paris.

PRAHA

Prague.
Howling Dog Hotel in Kobylisy.
Philharmonic Orchestra performing Arvo Pärt inside a pale blue palace.
Fell in love with a Czech Conductor.
Where an orchard grows in the middle of the city, surrounded by a golden forest.

Where history screams so loudly in the eyes of the older generations.
Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new bureaucracy. Kafka

Czech Cubism

The House at the Black Madonna.
Inside the cubist museum in Praha.
I want to adorn my apartment in cubist furnishings.
First I must aquire an apartment...

Niki de Saint-Phalle

what will I do now that you've left me?
will I cry a million tears?
will I die?
will I take to drink?
take a trip?
will I consult the stars and a crystal ball on how to win you back?
will we stay friends?
will I fall in love again?

MIRO & DESNOS

Joan Miro i Ferra (1893-1983)
Spanish Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramist.
This reminds me of the importance of space and acheiving resonant simplicity within a work - Miro's art illustrates the way I would like my music to sound.

Miro also illustrated the manuscript of French poet, Robert Desnos.
Desnos was a surrealest writer and an active member of the French resistence.
He was deported to Auschwitz in 1944. Desnos' work, along with Miro's inspires dedication to ideas and creating alternative realities where anything can happen...

One day Desnos was taken with fellow prisoners away from their barracks towards the gas chambers for execution. As they were lining up to enter the chambers, Desnos jumped out of line and grabbed the hand of a woman standing nearby. He began to read her palm. He told her she would have a long and joyous life with many grandchildern. Others rushed towards Desnos to have their palms read... The gaurds became disorientated and were unable to continue with the executions.
Desnos created a new reality; the power of his imagination saved his life and the lives of others.

The Warmth Merchant

Still from the film 'Heat and Dust' (1983)
Directed by James Ivory who also played the tanpura for the score, along with Zakir Hussain's tabla.

Rhythm is part of us from the time we're in our mother's womb. The heart is pumping, there is a pulse, so we respond to that... The tempos of the songs that have become hits are the tempos that either you walk in, you breathe in, or you make love in...
-Zakir Hussain

таа го сака, на стариот свет

To my most darling friend
For each evening that we spend
In the cosy walls of our kitchens
Spilling stories over dishes
Drinking European cider
In the early part of winter
As the cold enters your bones-
We'll hang on to our dreams
And someday find eachother
Basking in the LA summer
